That's right folks. According to TIME (You -- Yes, You -- Are TIME's Person of the Year) all of us really got it going on during 2006. We shared our likes, dislikes, points of views and simply everything we felt like shouting at the world in such a vividly and unprecedented way (thanks to YouTube, MySpace, Blogs, et al).
My prediction: the situation will only get better, worse?, in 2007. We may be at the entrance of a new kind of Internet. One that's going to be people-driven. Yes, people -- regular non-savvy dudes who have learned that there's more on the WWW than just browsing and sending/receiving emails.
Sit tight and enjoy...

That's very cool, and in all honesty, very well deserved. The impact of user-driven content on the internet cannot be measured, so, thumbs up for all of us that take some time to view AND post whatever we find amusing, wether it's thoughts, pics, videos or news.
And ironically, it's precisely on a blog that I find this news, so that alone should serve as proof.
I really don't want to burst anyone's bubble, but this is a practical joke. First of all top ten (or any other number) lists on magazines usually suck. Any person knowledgeable enough in the area in question will tell you that. The fact that a magazine like Time has such a diverse audience let's them get away with things like that without massive negative feedback from their readers.
This is just some gag, in a lame attempt to be original and fresh. Also appealing to the reader's ego is a plus. Person of the year isn't a construct, a community or a variable where any person can fit him or herself into. It's the PERSON OF THE YEAR. It's a dude, that has out shined all other dude's and for some reason deserves attention. They may want to change the theme of the award, but the long tradition makes it a bit rough. Soon we'll have cars, personal electronics and graphical locations as persons of the year.
Keep in mind that I agree that the "media from the masses" revolution that has been going on lately is not just noteworthy, but will have a disruptive force in the market as well as our lifestyles. Not criticizing that. I'm participating in it just by writing this, so that would be an act of hypocrisy. I'm saying Time has no idea what they are talking about and shouldn't be taken as reference especially on this subject. Media from the masses being sincerely congratulated by the very traditional foundation it will soon over throw? Yeah.... right....
I smell marketing stunt...
Also, user-driven content only means more 'Welcome to Sparky's page (Juancito's dog)' content polluting the interweb. But thankfully it also brings some really knowledgeable people to be able to post content, which is good. You just have to filter the other stuff.
I agree with Warchiefx. There's definitely going to be a lot of garbage polluting the web. But that's what we have filters for -- that marvelous technology that will impede the junk to reach us.
And Saotome, give them a break. Perhaps they didn't find a dude who was worthy enough of such a remarkable distinction -- maybe they should've said "people of the year" instead. :)
I certainly can't think of anyone... Bush? Bin Laden? Gates? Slim? Hmmm...
